The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued significant new use rules (SNURs) under the Toxic Substances Control Act for 20 chemical substances that were the subject of pre-manufacture notices (PMNs). These substances contain vinylidene ester (generic), Distillates (lignocellulosic), C5-40, Polyaromatic Organophosphorus Compound (generic) and so on.
The rules require persons who intend to manufacture, import, or process the chemicals for a use that is designated as a significant new use to notify the EPA at least 90 days before starting that activity. The agency will use the notification to assess the intended use and, if necessary, to prohibit or limit that activity before it occurs The new SNURs will go into effect on 2 January 2013. Comments are due by 3 December.
