The Norwegian Environment Agency has published its national waste strategy, which increases the collection targets for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).
The total collection of WEEE in Norway is already among the highest in Europe. A priority for future work will be the collection of small electronics, such as mobile phones, electric toothbrushes and light bulbs. Manufacturers of any electrical and electronic equipment traded in Norway will be obliged to finance the environmentally sound collection and treatment of WEEE, by being a member of an approved recycling company, according to the new strategy.
Other key elements of the strategy are the increased recycling of plastic and construction waste, and the collection of textile waste.
